The cooperation with STAWAG Energie GmbH at a glance

STAWAG Energie GmbH

Partnership is characterised by transparency and ideas for innovation

Deutsche Windtechnik has enjoyed a long-standing partnership with STAWAG Energie GmbH (a 100% subsidiary of Stadtwerke Aachen Aktiengesellschaft). The two companies signed their first service contract in 2016. This was followed by numerous other service contracts for Senvion wind turbines (WTG) and particularly demanding individual projects.

Building a successful partnership

STAWAG Energie GmbH and Deutsche Windtechnik came in contact the first time in 2015. After detailed negotiations, STAWAG Energie GmbH finally commissioned Deutsche Windtechnik to provide maintenance for a total of seven Senvion-MM92 (each with Bachmann control technology). Both contracts include full maintenance for the turbines. This first successful project has resulted in further cooperation between the two companies in the area of service. The group of companies from Aachen has now signed contracts for 32 wind turbines with Deutsche Windtechnik.

Long-standing contacts create trust

It is characteristic of the good cooperation that the first contact between the two companies still exists today. Stefan Keutgen (STAWAG Energie GmbH) and Jörg Fuchs (Deutsche Windtechnik) were the ones who exchanged the first words and handshakes. To this day, their contact is close and they trust one another. The extensive projects have also led to close cooperation on other levels, such as STAWAG Energie's technical management and customer management. “Our quarterly feedback talks are also characteristic of the solution-oriented, open cooperation. Here everyone speaks openly about the topics they need to discuss, and together we quickly find a solution,” said Stefan Keutgen, Head of Technical Operations at STAWAG Energie GmbH.

Finding alternatives together: Ground-Based Winch System

One example is the unplanned replacement of a blade bearing on a Senvion wind turbine in May 2020. The condition of the potential crane site did not permit the use of a conventional large crane frame. The Ground-Based Winch System (GBWS), which was developed by GfW, a 100% subsidiary of Deutsche Windtechnik, offered a viable alternative in this case. The system had previously been used successfully on other turbine types, and the colleagues at GfW quickly adapted it to the Senvion wind turbine using cable deflections and attachment points. STAWAG trust in the innovations of Deutsche Windtechnik and GfW was rewarded with a successful, fast and cost-effective implementation of the blade bearing replacement within a few weeks.
