Deutsche Windtechnik, a global leader in services for wind energy systems, and Meidensha Corporation, a pioneering manufacturer of heavy-duty electrical equipment, have entered into a consultancy agreement. This alliance aims to strategically position Meidensha as Japan's leading Independent Service Provider (ISP) for wind turbines, simultaneously advancing the Japanese onshore wind energy landscape.
The consultancy agreement between Deutsche Windtechnik and Meidensha seeks to enhance the Japanese onshore wind energy sector by reducing dependence on wind turbine manufacturers and streamlining multi-brand wind farm maintenance. Establishing an ISP will introduce flexibility and foster healthy competition, promoting sustainable growth within the industry.
Establishing an independent service infrastructure
Deutsche Windtechnik will take on an advisory role and use its expertise to provide Meidensha with pioneering support in establishing an onshore service infrastructure independent of the mainland and Europe. This includes enabling Meidensha to train qualified onshore wind turbine technicians and ensure domestic field support. Deutsche Windtechnik also supplies the company with important spare parts ranging from power electronics to large components.
"The cooperation with Meidensha Corporation is a significant step for the Japanese onshore wind energy sector. We support Meidensha to establish itself as the leading ISP in this emerging market," explained Matthias Brandt, Director at Deutsche Windtechnik. "Our two decades of experience and in-depth know-how will enable Meidensha to build a powerful service infrastructure to provide first-class onshore services for wind farm operators in Japan."
Strengthening wind energy development in Japan
This collaboration underlines both companies' commitment to promoting sustainable energy in Japan. Shinichiro Kon, Managing Executive Officer of the Meidensha Power Infrastructure Business Group, said: “We are very pleased to have concluded this consultancy agreement. With the strong support of Deutsche Windtechnik, we hope to become a leading onshore ISP contributing to the expansion of renewable energy in Japan.”
This expansion was defined in Japan’s Strategic Energy Plan set in 2021. It aims to achieve 36-38% renewable energy and reduce CO2 emissions by 46% (compared to 2013) by 2030.
