Sergej Nuss is an offshore service technician at Deutsche Windtechnik and one of the first participants in the further training exam for the profession Qualified Electrician in Industry (IHK): Here Sergej explains why he decided to take the exam and why English is a particular advantage in the offshore industry.


Sergej, why did you decide to take part in the Qualified Electrician further training exam at this particular point in your professional career?

I would like to further develop my professional skills and knowledge. The Qualified Electrician exam offers me the opportunity to demonstrate my expertise in my specialist area and broaden my career prospects. In addition, the Qualified Electrician exam is a recognised certification that is viewed by employers as well as colleagues as proof of quality.

Are you happy that Deutsche Windtechnik has taken the initiative to offer the exam in English?

Yes, this is an important step to facilitate access to this exam for international participants and simultaneously adapt the requirements to the language skills needed in the offshore sector. The offshore wind industry is international and attracts specialists from a wide range of countries. The opportunity to take the exam in English provides these professionals an internationally recognised qualification, and this improves their career prospects. The availability of training in English also helps to promote diversity and integration in the offshore sector, which contributes to the advancement of the industry. 

What advantages do you expect to gain specifically in the offshore industry by passing the exam?

Passing the Qualified Electrician exam will allow me to further deepen my understanding of the safety regulations and procedures in the offshore sector, and this will have a positive effect on the quality of my work. I am also confident that passing the Qualified Electrician exam will significantly improve my career prospects in the offshore industry because it is evidence of my expertise, safety awareness and reliability.
