Cyber attack on Deutsche Windtechnik

During the night between April 11 and 12, Deutsche Windtechnik's IT systems were targeted by a cyber attack. As we previously reported, we were able to reactivate the remote data monitoring connections to the wind turbines after 1-2 days, which had been switched off for security reasons. We are very happy that the wind turbines that we look after did not suffer any damage and were never in danger. Deutsche Windtechnik's operational maintenance activities for our clients resumed again on April 14 and are running with only minor restrictions. We were able to assess all IT systems in a secure environment and to identify and isolate the problems. The forensic analysis has been completed and the result has shown that this was a targeted professional cyber attack.

Implementation of an adapted security concept
However, not everything is the same as before at Deutsche Windtechnik. With the findings of IT forensic scientists, we are expanding our systems with higher security requirements in all units and areas. Deutsche Windtechnik's recently implemented IT security concept is characterized in particular by comprehensive personal IT monitoring, which can manage possible cyber activities even more proactively and act very quickly. In addition, a range of systems have been configured with even more redundance and will receive additional security support from external experts.

Proactively managing cybercrime
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our clients and partners for their trust and patience. Even more: Some of you have offered us active support these days - we did not expect that and we see it as a strong sign of the quality of our business relationships and the solidarity in the industry. The tasks that we needed to attend to over the last few days also included reporting the incident to the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), which deals with all issues related to IT security in today's information-based society. We hope that our experience can also help other companies to protect themselves more effectively against cyber attacks in the future.

How can you currently contact us?
Telephone contact with our employees was and is possible at any time. Most of our employees can be reached via email, with a strong upward trend within the next few days. Since the IT structure of Deutsche Windtechnik is fundamentally decentralized, some units and areas are already completely and fully operational again and integrated into the new security concept. We will inform you again when full availability is restored on all communication channels of Deutsche Windtechnik.
