Deutsche Windtechnik is setting the pace in Taiwan
The Taiwanese government has set itself an expansion goal of 5.5 GW of offshore wind capacity, and it awarded licenses for the first large scale commercial offshore wind farms in April 2018. Taiwan is currently the fastest growing offshore wind market in the Asian-Pacific (APAC) region.
Deutsche Windtechnik, the leading independent service provider in Europe, established a subsidiary in Taiwan in 2018. The branch is headquartered in the city of Taipei. Deutsche Windtechnik won its first large-scale offshore wind project in November of the same year to provide balance of plant (BOP) service and operations management for the Yunlin offshore wind farm.
The close cooperation between Deutsche Windtechnik Co. Ltd. (德唯特股份有限公司) in Taiwan and its affiliates ensures extensive knowledge transfer from the group’s existing projects in Europe to the new Taiwanese market, and this enables the local business unit to offer the group’s complete range of services.
Deutsche Windtechnik is committed to developing and establishing a sustainable local supply chain, which includes the qualification of subcontractors and sub-suppliers as well as cooperating with a local university for the qualification and employment of local labour.
Offshore wind energy will play an increasing role in the overall APAC region in the future. The new subsidiary gives Deutsche Windtechnik a strong foundation for further growth in the Asian-Pacific region.
Construction work on the new Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) “Prosperous 1 (風盛1號)” for Yunlin offshore wind farm in Taiwan was completed on schedule, followed by a naming ceremony on July 20 in Yilan County. The vessel is the first locally built CTV for Prosperous Wind Shipping in Taiwan and will be used to transport local technicians and materials to Yunlin offshore wind farm.
Deutsche Windtechnik has received another order to provide maintenance for offshore wind turbines. Following offshore wind farm alpha ventus and offshore wind farm Riffgat, the independent full-service provider is now also responsible for maintenance of the 32 Senvion 6.3M 152 turbines at Trianel Windpark Borkum II.
Deutsche Windtechnik continues to expand its worldwide service network and is establishing a new regional unit in Taiwan. At the offshore wind farm Yunlin, Deutsche Windtechnik Co. Ltd. will be in charge of a large part of wind turbine maintenance above and below water as well as technical management.
We were able to win strong partners for the construction and operation of the Yunlin wind farm. We have been working together with Deutsche Windtechnik successfully at the German wind farm Butendiek and the Nordergründe wind farm for years, and together we have a real quality advantage in Taiwan.
