Evacuation Training Focusing on Real-life Conditions
GWO safety training is typically conducted on training towers, in Germany in our excellently equipped Training Centers and abroad in similar facilities operated by certified providers. Thanks to the permission of the wind farm operator, our Polish colleagues can now train on an operational Vestas V90 at a height of 105 metres. Doing so bears several advantages: Service Technicians train for emergencies at their assigned wind farm, at the actual working height, and exposed to wind and weather.
The yearly Emergency Evacuation Training includes comprehensive topics, from personal protective equipment (PPE) and working-at-height regulations to intricate evacuation procedures. The training covers evacuating an injured person from a lift, rappelling down outside the turbine from an evacuation hatch, and highlighting hazards unique to lift evacuations in wind turbines.
Collaboration with Local Fire Services
On-site training has another major advantage: it maximises the wind farm's safety, as everyone involved trains together in the event of an emergency at the location where it could occur.
RAO ((the training provider) invited the local fire brigade to join the training. Together, the responding fire brigade and the service technicians practised the measures and had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with procedures of both teams.
Maximised Wind Farm Safety
Service technicians and first responders cooperating in emergency and safety training on the site increases the wind farm's safety and efficiency in an emergency. The local fire brigade is already familiar with the service technicians' training and skills, the site, and the architecture of the Vestas turbines in advance, allowing both sides to work together more quickly and effectively.
