Service for offshore foundations

We ensure that foundations remain intact – above as well as under water

The foundation is the cornerstone of every wind turbine. Part of it is above water and part below water, and it needs to be able to withstand significant stresses from currents and waves. Driven by the wind, oxygen-rich surface water spray constantly lashes against the outer surface. The corrosive effect is increased in combination with sunlight. For this reason, the foundation requires special care. Preserving the integrity of its structure is crucial to the safety of the entire wind turbine.

Deutsche Windtechnik provides all necessary services for a long and safe service life of the wind turbine. Our services not only include standard maintenance tasks, but also special test methods as well as corrosion protection. In addition to performing tasks above the waterline, our service teams are also highly skilled at the necessary underwater work. This includes maintenance work on components, special test procedures and services for the transition piece, such as the boat landing and cranes.

Service for foundations

Generally speaking, service includes inspection, maintenance and repair tasks. Here is a brief overview of the areas we cover:

  • Creation of service concepts
  • Creation of maintenance manuals and checklists
  • Monitoring and performing common service tasks
  • Troubleshooting (including crane system faults)
  • Development of retrofits
  • Inspection using a 3-step system

Inspection level 1:

Inspections above water, inside and outside the foundation. Includes general visual inspection, service, cleaning, and replacement of worn parts.

Inspection level 2:

Activities of level 1 In addition, precise visual inspection of structures below water. ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles) are used for this purpose.

Inspection level 3:

In addition to the service provided at levels 1 and 2, we also perform an inspection under the airtight platform. Cathodic corrosion protection measures and non-destructive tests are also used.

  • Corrosion protection

Corrosion protection is particularly important for parts of the system that are directly exposed to sea water. Continuous monitoring of existing corrosion protection and renewing it if necessary is an important part of service.

  • Underwater work (divers and ROVs)

We use specially trained divers or ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles) for underwater tasks. These tasks include corrosion protection, testing and repairs.

  • Safety technology

Inspection, replacement and retrofitting of safety components such as cargo cranes, winches, ladders, and much more.
