Deutsche Windtechnik (DWT) is setting the course for the future: At the turn of the year, Matthias Brandt, long-time CEO of Deutsche Windtechnik, handed over his executive mandate to his successor, Ronny Meyer. With a clear focus on stability and further development, Meyer aims to secure and enhance the company’s long-standing success. Here’s an introduction to the new CEO and his initial vision.
“Ronny Meyer is a strong leader who will enrich Deutsche Windtechnik with his expertise and distinctive leadership style,” says Matthias Brandt, introducing his successor. “At the same time, the focus remains on guiding the well-established team along its stable path of success while opening up new opportunities.” Meyer brings a wealth of experience to the role. With extensive leadership expertise drawn from the energy sector and climate policy, in-depth knowledge of renewable energy, and a strong technical foundation, he is no stranger to wind energy. After beginning his career as a physicist programming global wind power prediction models, he moved into renewable energy consulting before heading the Wind Energy Agency Bremen/Bremerhaven (WAB) for several years. Most recently, he held senior roles managing climate policy within the Bremen Senate and at the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection in Germany.
Stability, not upheaval – Meyer’s leadership philosophy
Meyer’s scientific expertise and passion for renewable energy also define his hands-on leadership style. He aims to bring continuity to his role – demonstrating humility towards the task and immense trust in the company’s workforce. “I’m not here to pretend I know better than everyone else. My first role is to listen, understand, and set the framework for the company's continued positive development,” Meyer explains. Stability and efficiency are central to his philosophy. “At our core, we are maintaining the solid business foundation that has made us successful. While there’s always room for improvement, the company has already proven its strength under Matthias Brandt’s leadership. With a strong foundation built on experience and innovation, Deutsche Windtechnik will stay on its successful course.”
Looking ahead: impulses for the future
With his focus on stability, Meyer will also position Deutsche Windtechnik for future opportunities. “The service market is stable and predictable. It’s our responsibility to continue shaping it efficiently and successfully,” he states. Meyer emphasises that changes will be carefully initiated with a long-term perspective in mind. “We are a fantastic team! My task will be to work with the leadership and employees to give the right impulses without fundamentally altering the existing path of success. Our experts have been doing a brilliant job for years.”
Trust, communication, and accountability
Meyer’s commitment to leading Deutsche Windtechnik successfully for the long term is evident in his values: trust, communication, and accountability. “Mistakes happen; they’re part of being human. What’s crucial is that we address them openly and work together to find solutions.” Collaboration is central to his vision: “The success of the service market rests on the strength of our team – leadership must focus on that,” Meyer emphasises.
A future for and with wind energy
As a native of Bremerhaven and former Managing Director of the WAB industry association, Meyer feels deeply connected to northern Germany and the wind energy sector. “The wind blows in the north – it’s where the German roots of the sector are, and it’s where I’m rooted too,” he says with a smile. Privately, Meyer is a down-to-earth family person, living in northern Germany with his wife and two school-aged children, and enjoys running and swimming for balance.
Planned transition and smooth handover
“With Ronny Meyer, Deutsche Windtechnik sends a clear signal towards a stable future, led by a personality who brings not only expertise and leadership qualities but also deep roots in the wind energy sector,” Matthias Brandt summarises the leadership change at Deutsche Windtechnik. The transition was carefully planned over a long period, ensuring a seamless handover. Matthias Brandt reflects on more than 20 impactful and innovative years at Deutsche Windtechnik: “These have been unique and formative years, filled with many remarkable experiences in which, together with all our colleagues, we have played a decisive role in shaping the service sector. I am confident that as a company, we are excellently positioned, with clear opportunities in a stable market environment. The transition comes at the right time to bring fresh ideas and new perspectives to the top.”
