We want to change that

Have you noticed that there is no emoji for wind energy yet?

This is why, shortly before this year's World Emoji Day, we decided to submit an emoji proposal for an onshore and offshore turbine directly to the Unicode panel that decides on new emojis.

The international, industry-spanning demand for a wind turbine emoji was confirmed by the large amount of enthusiastic feedback on a LinkedIn post by Deutsche Windtechnik. In it, we communicated the idea and a picture proposal for a wind turbine emoji (to our LinkedIn post). To date, this post has received over 5,300 likes and comments. We had not expected that much positive feedback.

The distinctive elements of a wind turbine – the tower, nacelle and rotor – can be depicted very well in an emoji. Wind turbines are increasingly becoming part of the landscape and are easily recognisable structures, and the media report on climate protection and wind energy on a daily basis, so the emoji should have a high international recognition value and make it easy for mobile phone users worldwide to understand it.

A wind turbine emoji would not only stand for the technical topics of energy, energy generation, wind and movement. A wind turbine emoji can be a symbol for much more. This includes the fact that we want to protect our climate and that our everyday actions have a lot to do with this. These topics concern everyone: every mobile phone user, so to speak. The time is right for a wind turbine emoji! We hope Unicode agrees with us. All submissions should receive notification regarding their status by October. More information will be available then via this channel.
