Line filter upgrade protects SBG transformers from total damage over long periods of time

During the course of maintenance work on a number of Senvion 3.XM NES/50Hz wind turbines, Deutsche Windtechnik's service teams found massive damage to the transformers, and this made it impossible to continue operating the turbines until the transformers had been replaced.

A subsequent root cause analysis of this unusual and frequently occurring transformer damage revealed that in specific configurations of the Senvion 3XM-NES turbines, harmonics on the converter cause massive consequential damage to the component. To prevent the costly replacement of transformers in the future, experts at Deutsche Windtechnik developed a line filter upgrade for 3XM-NES turbines equipped with Ingeteam inverters. The device significantly reduces the harmonics and the associated thermal overload of the transformer. The goal is to prevent the transformer from needing to be replaced and therefore also to prevent the affected wind turbine from suffering downtime.

The line filter designed by Deutsche Windtechnik has been comprehensively tested using metrological methods, and its effectiveness has been confirmed by independent third parties.
